Rue-Anemone, Thalictrum thalictroides |
Looks a lot like Wood Anemone, and a bit like Spring Beauty. Less common here than either of those.
Bloodroot is similar but has huge leaves. Hepatica is usually pastel colored rather than white and also has big leaves. Both are about as uncommon here (NJ) as Rue-Anemone.
The rounded, three-lobed, meadow rue - like leaves are the easiest way to recognize it (Wood Anemone has deeply cut leaves and Spring Beauty leaves are grass-like).
Used to be called Anemonella thalictroides.
The stem is often very narrow, dark and wiry, especially the leaf petioles. The leaves are whorled but not compound.
The petals are really sepals (there are no petals). They stay open all the time, unlike Wood Anemone.
