Purple Gerardia (Agalinis purpurea)

Note this species has short flower stems. Also the petals are hairy inside. This is by far the most common gerardia species.

A. tenuifolia is here, but much less common, with flower stems longer than 1 cm (longer than the green flower tube) and petals not hairy, and top two petals folded over, not spreading.

A. setacea is in the Pine Barrens, also has the long flower stems, and has those top petals spreading, flowers hairy.

A. maritima is only in salt marshes along the shore, similar to purple gerardia, but leaves fleshy.
